My Journey To A Minimalist Lifestyle Part 1
My Journey To A Minimalist Lifestyle started in 2016. A Minimalist lifestyle is not popular in the Philippines. I never heard of it until I read some articles that helped me change my lifestyle. I am still learning and transitioning from my mindless lifestyle to a more focus and mindful life. The following are the things I learned and will continue to learn:
CAPSULE WARDROBE
I am still in the process of stream lining my wardrobe because I could not find the right style that I want. It is hard to shop when the style you want in mind is not available in the market.
The big change in me, however, is my self restrain in buying new clothes. I used to buy clothes because I think they are cute or pretty. Now, I am more mindful of what I buy. I always ask myself if the clothes I am currently looking at fits my capsule wardrobe. I no longer buy clothes because I find them pretty. I make sure that they fit well with the uniform that I chose to wear.
I realized that when I buy clothes without a goal in mind, I accumulate unnecessary clothes which I end up not using. By having a clear goal in mind such as thinking of my uniform capsule wardrobe, I know what I want to buy and will not buy just anything. I become selective of my purchase and I buy less.
I LEARNED HOW TO MAKE MY OWN BEAUTY PRODUCTS
I used to obsess on beauty products such as lotion and face whitening products. I love reading reviews of which product to use. Beauty products are expensive. With minimalism, I was able to set aside time where I can learn something new. The 10 minutes video in the skill share app thought me that what we put in our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream. Commercial lotions and beauty products are full of harmful chemicals with names that I do not even know how to pronounce. The video was a tutorial on how to make home made lotion bars.
I learned that we can achieve better effects from natural oils and butters without added chemicals. I first started learning how to make lotion bars from oils and beeswax. I researched for materials that can be used for skin and how to use them. I invested in natural materials and I can craft whatever I could think of such as body scrub, face oil, lotion, toothpaste, candle and others.
I LEARNED ABOUT PERSONAL FINANCE
Since I dedicated myself in learning something new, I read articles about personal finance. I was brought up by a family that did not know how to budget their money well. So, learning from other people about saving, investment, emergency fund and stocks is amazing. I was able to read the books of Robert Kiyosaki which inspired me to earn passive income instead of staying as an employee.
Like Robert Kiyosaki’s parents, my parents only thought me to go to school and enter the government for a better pay. Well, I learned to want more than just being an employee. I know that the pay is great but I prefer living my life to the fullest. I want to Learn things as I go and be free from orders of a superior.
I STARTED THIS WEBSITE
Yes, this website will not exist if I did not read intomind.com and zenhabits.net. Anuschka Rees and Leo Bautista inspired me to become a minimalist and share this knowledge to other people.
I am no longer afraid to begin writing again, it is always my passion to write. I am grateful for technology since it is now so easy to access the internet. I first started blogging when I was 16 years old but I stopped after Blogspot.Com cancelled my account. Now, I am back with WordPress and I am happy with that decision.
To Summarize:
I was able to learn a lot of new things because I chose to do so. I let go of non-essential things in life to learn things which will benefit me and my family. Do not be afraid to learn and continue learning.
